Reiki is a holistic system which uses safe, gentle non-intrusive hands on healing technique which uses spiritual energy for balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of a person.
But for the practitioner it is much more. Reiki is not a therapy skill that you just learn like massage. It changes the practitioner themselves, if the practitioner performs self treatments on a regular basis. Reiki works to bring freedom, enlightenment, peaceful living, kindness and calmness into the practitioners life. Being able to treat other people is a by product of being able to channel Reiki.
When I was attuned to Reiki Level 1, the thing that struck me the most was how much calmer I felt. Before doing Reiki I felt that situations and problems hit me head on, making me feel anxious and stressed and invoking emotional reactions. Once I had done Reiki 1 I felt calmer, problems and situations that I could do nothing about stopped hitting me head on. They seemed to split in front of me and flow passed me, while I stayed calm and discerning and detached in the middle. I was able to distinguish what was important and dealt with that. Situations I could not change, stopped worrying me, leaving me feeling calmer, more relaxed and enjoying life. And because I felt calmer I wanted to help other people and bring harmony and calmness to their lives.
Following a Reiki attunement you go through a 21 day clearing process. The practitioner performs a self treatment every day to help this process. I do my self treatments at night in bed. This is because I found that Reiki will continue to flow for as long as you need it even if you fall asleep. The first few night I was doing my self treatments I woke up about 3 or 4 am and could still feel the pins and needles tingling in the palms of my hands, and I was so thirsty. I never drink water in the middle of the night, but for about a week I was drinking a good pint. The pins and needles changed to feeling like I had a hot fifty pence in the middle of each palm, and my brain felt like it was expanding and pressing against my skull and this was uncomfortable and painful at times.
People at work noticed a change in me. I was working as a software engineer at the time and as usual everyone was working to unreachable deadlines, which used to cause me stress. But once I had been attuned to Reiki I stopped caring. This made me calmer, which meant I did not rush, made less mistakes and was actually more productive.
I told my close colleagues that I could channel Reiki and being engineers they raised their eyebrows and said – REALLY. – One morning one of the lads, Ben had hurt his ankle playing football. He put his foot on my desk and said – Come on Jesus, heal me –
Cheeky bugger – I thought, but I put my hands about an inch either side of his ankle, and started to channel Reiki.
At the beginning Ben was chatting away to one of the other lads, but after a minute or so he quiet. I looked up and he said – I can feel a pulsing sensation in my ankle, it feels just like when I had sonic treatment on it.
Later when I had become a Reiki Master I attuned Ben to Reiki.
